KTJ celebrates Earth Day 2022
One of KTJ’s Strategic Goals is to champion sustainability. Our work and focus towards this goal is most evident through our recent certification from The Planet Mark, which was achieved through calculating our School’s carbon footprint. But our work towards engaging the KTJ community in sustainability projects is a year-long commitment, and so we promoted this theme through a number of educational and exciting activities for Earth Day 2022.
In the Primary School, a small group of students from each class was given the opportunity to plant a tree on campus. The trees, which included a variety of fruit trees and lemon pine, were kindly donated to KTJ by Home Grown Farms in Seminyeh and Free Tree Society in Kuala Lumpur. The students also spent the week collecting plastic bottle tops to create colourful artwork which will be displayed around the school. Finally, our Early Years children ventured into the playground to pick up litter and learn about the importance of protecting the natural environment. Thanks to Ms Hayley for organising these activities in KTJ Primary!
In the Secondary School, our Sustainability and Outreach Officer, Lance Gerow, provided tips and advice via email on how the community can reduce its impact on the environment. The School also recognised Earth Hour on Thursday from 8.30 - 9.30pm by turning off all non-essential lights, air conditioning units and electronic devices.
KTJ’s Principal, Dr Glenn Moodie, also got involved by interviewing the CEO of The Planet Mark, Steve Malkin, for an upcoming KTWhat?! Podcast which will be published on Saturday 30 April. They discussed a number of topics including how individuals can make a positive impact, exciting developments in reducing carbon emissions, the importance of sustainability in schools and future plans for The Planet Mark as they mark their 10th anniversary next year.
