Mental Health Awareness at KTJ
The Mental Health America organisation first established Mental Health Awareness Month and was recognised in 1949. This may have been over 70 years ago, however, there sometimes still seems to be a stigma surrounding discussing this somewhat taboo topic.
The idea of this month is to educate the public on what some forms of mental health problems may be as well as how it is ok to reach out for help. Over the years, there has been an improvement in discussing the qualms surrounding mental health, especially with the establishment of many helplines and associations aiming to assist and support those who require it.
KTJ has been playing their part in recognising Mental Health Awareness Month by holding an MHA week of our own. At the end of term 2, the Peer-to-Peer Support Group organised an initiative called “Delivered with care”, aiming to show support and love to other people in the community by sending them care packages from several choices of trinkets and snacks to choose from.
We recently held a “Wear it Green” Mufti Day, where students were encouraged to flash some green in support of mental health awareness month. Our very own Café Diem also participated by serving a variety of yummy green pastries and desserts.
Mental health is an essential part of our wellbeings, and everyone should know that they can always reach out if they need support. In KTJ our school counsellors Ms Lia and Ms Rachael are here to help anyone who needs it. Let's all join in this mental health awareness month to spread the message and acceptance.
