Prior to joining KTJ, Sarah was the Trust Deputy Headteacher at The Learning Trust, which oversees three schools in the North West of England. This role focused on improving the Quality of Education for students in all three schools. Sarah is proud to have created the first UK school based Leadership Coaching Programme in partnership with Colourful Solutions. She has vast experience built up from working in a range of schools in the UK. She holds an MRes in Environmental Sciences and a BSc in Biochemistry, both awarded by the University of St Andrews. Sarah also holds the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). During her free time, she enjoys swimming, observing nature, cooking, reading, playing with her children and has a passion for music and singing.

Secondary Leadership Team
Gary graduated from Rhodes University in South Africa with a degree in History before heading to the UK where he worked for 15 years before arriving at KTJ. In the UK, held the positions of Head of Boarding, Director of Sport and Head of School (Operations) at Salisbury Cathedral School. Gary loves to explore the world and hopes to spend his spare time travelling (and fishing) with his wife, young daughter and friends.
Matthew studied for a BA (Hons) in Geography at the University of Plymouth. He then completed his PGCE and PGCERT (Reflective Practice) at the University of Exeter. Matthew has had various roles throughout his teaching career, including being Head of Department, Assistant Head and Deputy Housemaster. His three children attend KTJ School. In his spare time Matthew likes to watch cricket, go running and play guitar.
Clair studied for a BSc in Geography at the University of Plymouth in the UK and then moved to complete a PGCE in Geography at the University of Exeter. She started her career at The Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester. This is a high achieving state comprehensive school in South West England. She held several roles at this school before starting a family with her partner Matthew. For the last 3 years she has been the Head of Geography and History at Sidcot School, a coeducational international boarding school near Bristol. In her spare time, Clair enjoys spending time with her 3 children and running.
After graduating from the University of Liverpool, David completed his PGCE at Homerton College, Cambridge. He is the Houseparent of Naquiah Day House and has worked in schools in both the UK and Australia. David and his wife have four sons, all of whom study at KTJ. David loves sport, in particular rugby, and cycled unsupported across Australia in 2022.
Hamish has been at KTJ since 2018. He is Assistant Head of School and is responsible for data analysis, student progress and assessment, as well as being a boarding house tutor in Imran House and History teacher. He also loves organising professional development, especially TeachMeets. Prior to coming to Malaysia, he worked at schools in Dubai, a special school in Hartlepool, England and a prep school in Hampshire, after reading History at the University of Durham, and training with a Secondary PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University.
He is a GCSE History examiner for Pearson Edexcel, and a Peer Evaluator for the Council of International Schools. He is very proud to support the Debate Union, where he gets to work with some of KTJ’s most articulate students. Outside school, he enjoys gardening with friends, reading and researching history, experiencing Malaysia's amazing food and listening to Scottish folk music.
Ng Poh Bee is a Maths teacher who has taught at KTJ since 2004. She graduated from the University of Putra Malaysia and enjoys playing piano.
Rachel is an Accounting and Economics teacher. She graduated from the University of Southern Queensland and is a member of CPA Australia. She loves to engage in performing arts and is an Alia House Tutor.
Shamini completed her Diploma in IT and a Degree in Software Engineering from UNITEN. She continued to complete her Masters in Education Administration from UPM. She is passionate about computer programming and would like to share her experience with the students at KTJ. In her spare time she enjoys reading books, listening to music and watching movies.
Tristan studied English Literature at the University of Wales and later completed his teacher training at the university of Loughborough. He started his career at De Lisle Catholic School as an English teacher and has since held middle and senior positions including Head of department, Head of Pastoral care, Safeguarding Lead and Assistant Headteacher. Currently he is excited about working as a learning mentor across both primary and secondary school supporting student teachers and Early Career teachers. He has worked in Uzbekistan, the United Kingdom and India and is currently loving Malaysia. In his spare time Tristan is a musician, a keen actor and performance poet and a dedicated, if somewhat amateur home cook. Tristan is also the Professional Mentor, leading the induction of new academic staff.
Andy Chessell has joined us in the new role of Director of Day House Strategy. He runs the Senior Day House and is focused on ensuring all day pupils at KTJ have a first-class educational experience, as they positively contribute to, and benefit from, a boarding school environment with all the rich experience that can provide . Prior to joining KTJ, Andy was at Rugby School UK. He was appointed as their Day Housemaster in 2017, overseeing a period of change and growth, as the house took ownership of new facilities and buildings. Prior to that he was Rugby' School's inaugural Artistic Director, having joined the school in 2012. As well as overseeing the academic and pastoral life of the day pupils at KTJ, Andy enjoys running and walking his dog, Frodo, a working cocker. He holds an MSC in Educational Leadership from Leicester University and a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard Business School.
Business Department
Mohana has been teaching Economics at KTJ since year 2000. After graduating from University Science Malaysia, she started her banking career with MBF before moving into the field of education. She is currently working on a reference book on A Level Economics. She hopes to have it published soon.
Aru studied for a Business Administration at National University of
Malaysia and completed his Master in Education (Leadership and
Management) at AeU university in Malaysia. He started his teaching
career at Dasmesh School before heading Business Department and
Deputy Pastoral at Nobel International School. In 2011 he moved to
Tenby International School where he took up various role in the school
range from Year 9 Pastoral Lead, CIS Steering Committee member,
Secondary Trips and Event Coordinator, DOE Coordinator, Enterprise
Club Lead and Street Chil United Charity Lead. In his spare time Aru
enjoys following football, fitness and travelling.
Shir Li has a degree in Economics with a specialization in Econometrics, which she obtained from National University of Malaysia. She also holds a master's degree in Economics. With a strong focus on Econometrics, Shir Li has developed a deep understanding of statistical and mathematical models used in economic analysis. Along with her academic qualifications, Shir Li has gained 7 years of experience teaching economics at a private university. Additionally, Shir Li is an enthusiastic nature lover who enjoys spending time camping and exploring the great outdoors. Her passion for education and shaping young minds is evident through her dedication to the teaching profession. Shir Li is a Deputy Head of the Sixth Form Team.
Kalarani graduated from Northern University Malaysia with a B. Acct (Hons.) in 1994. She worked in audit firms for 2 years and taught in a private college for 5 years prior to joining KTJ in August 2001. Currently, teaching Accounting for Forms 4, 5 , Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth.
Sharifah Nura a pioneer teacher in KTJ - teaching O and A level Economics. Houseparent for the House of Jawahir as well as teacher advisor for People to People International Student Chapter.
Mary is a Business teacher who has taught at KTJ since year 2004. She graduated with a degree in Economics and enjoys travelling.
Computing
Pathma is an ICT teacher who has taught at KTJ since year 2000. She is also the head of the Computer department. She graduated from the Otago Polytechnic Dunedin.
After gaining a degree in Theoretical Physics, Ian started his career working as a Test Engineer in the Semiconductor business getting hands-on experience in computer networking and programming. He continued working in the Electronics sector as a Consultant whilst also pursuing a career as a successful musician, teaching at the prestigious Manchester Metropolitan University and also as a Lead Musician with the oldest orchestra in the world, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.
He is delighted to work with the bright minds of KTJ and bring his practical experience into the classroom and also within the Sixth Form giving students practical engineering experience.
In his spare time, he loves tinkering with Raspberry Pi computers, playing the piano and practising his Opera Singing.
English
Alice majored in Speech and Drama and Classical Civilisation at Rhodes University, and started her teaching career in South Africa and Zimbabwe. In 2002 she moved to the UK, where she taught English at Stonyhurst College. Alice then went onto teach both English and History in Uzbekistan.
Meet Melinder, a self-proclaimed 'kampung girl' whose passion for teaching has led her on a remarkable journey of discovery. Her teaching odyssey began by establishing the English department at a university in Sana’a, Yemen. However, her path took an unexpected turn due to the outbreak of civil war, prompting her to embark on a new chapter.
Venturing into new horizons, Melinder played a pivotal role in launching and co-managing an English department in the enchanting city of Guilin, China. Her teaching voyage continued as she made her way to Heyuan, China, where she not only taught but also trained fellow educators in a private school.
Before joining our community, Melinder's voyage led her to the vibrant city of Bangkok, Thailand. There, she took charge of both the Secondary English and Pastoral Care division, leaving an indelible mark.
Outside the classroom, Melinder's spirit for exploration remains unwavering. You might find her savouring a cup of tea, engrossed in a captivating book, embarking on thrilling journeys, road tripping to new destinations, and fearlessly embracing novel experiences.
Mark Disney has been a permanent resident of Malaysia for over 20 years and joined KTJ in 2014, teaching History and English Literature at IGCSE and A-Level. He graduated from Oxford University with a degree in English Language & Literature. In addition to teaching and lecturing, he has extensive experience in the areas of educational consultancy, journalism, publishing, and qualifications. He is the President of the Oxford & Cambridge Society of Malaysia and will assist with university placement for the 6th Form. He is married with three children (2 of them are alumni of KTJ!)
Suresh is a member of the English Department and has worked at KTJ since 1994. He has held various positions in the School, including that of Houseparent, Proctor and Deputy Principal. Currently, Suresh is an English Teacher and Coach/Mentor. He graduated from the University of Warwick, UK and enjoys tinkering with his cars.
Abdes brings with her extensive experience of almost two decades in education, applying appropriate teaching and assessment methodologies, and contributing to the design and development of objectives and teaching materials. Most of her adult life she was living and pursuing her passion for teaching in foreign lands, namely in the Middle East prior to returning to Malaysia few years ago. Before joining KTJ, Abdes was attached to Fairview International School as an IBMYP and IBDP English Language and Literature teacher and the Head of English Language and Literature Department for 9 years. During her free time, she enjoys hiking and reading, and she is passionate about a plausible future in which good education must be made accessible to all irrespective of gender, race or socio-economic backgrounds.
Charles holds a B.Ed in English and Biology from the University of Johannesburg. Prior to moving to Malaysia, he taught English in Germany, South Africa, and Uzbekistan, where his students achieved prestigious awards such as the highest score in IGCSE English exams in South Africa, and the highest mark globally in the A level language and literature exams. Charles has lived in, or visited, 22 countries and speaks four languages. In his spare time, Charles enjoys playing with his two small children, chess, cycling, archery, scuba diving, hiking, kayaking, and anything that takes him into nature and wild places.
Katherine brings over 14 years of English teaching at all levels with her to KTJ. To date she has worked in Hong Kong, Doha, Shanghai and the UK. She has been living and working in sunny Malaysia for four years now and is delighted to remain in the country and continue her journey in teaching at KTJ. In her previous two schools she held the role of Head of English, but is very excited to get back into the classroom to her roots and bring her enthusiasm and passion for the subject to students at KTJ.
She holds a BA(Hons) Theatre Studies and Drama from Royal Holloway, University of London and a PGCE English and Drama from University of Warwick. Katherine's interests in English are Gothic literature, Magical Realism, Romance and Shakespeare. She has been proud to organise various events in her career such as Book Week, Shakespeare Festival, various competitions, and a range of outings.
Outside of school, Katherine enjoys swimming, walking, amateur theatre, singing, travelling and being a self-professed foodie. She has a passion for writing stories and has a pet rabbit named Oreo.
Originating from the culturally rich city of Malacca, Shafiqah holds a Bachelor of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of Nottingham. She graduated with first-class honours and was distinguished by a Dean's Excellency Award. Furthermore, she undertook a pivotal internship in the English as an Additional Language (EAL) department at KTJ for her final year of teaching practicum. She currently holds a position in the English department, where she primarily focuses on lower secondary students. In addition, Shafiqah also works in the learning support department, where she helps make sure all students feel included and can learn effectively.
Outside of her professional commitments, Shafiqah possesses a multifaceted array of interests. She engages in glass painting as an artistic outlet and holds a black belt in Taekwondo. She loves spending time with her family, and she also enjoys badminton and had represented her state in multiple badminton tournaments.
Sam studied Theatre and Performance for a BA and then went on to study a PGCE in Secondary Drama & English at the University of Plymouth. He began his career at Taunton School in the southwest of England where he taught English, History and ICT and was the Housemaster in one of the boarding houses. In his spare time Sam really enjoys hiking, watching the latest movie releases and following football and cricket. Sam is married to Mhairi and they both live in the Junior Boys’ boarding house at KTJ.
Viknashalani or Ms Sha studied for a Bachelor’s Degree in English
(2013) and Masters in World Literature (2015) and completed her
PGCEi with the University of Belfast (2016). She was previously working
with Tenby International School Setia Ecopark for nine years as an
English & Literature teacher for KS3, KS4 and A-levels. She was the
Assistant Head Pastoral and DSL, keeping students’ welfare, safety and
wellbeing alongside teaching and learning. During her free time, she
enjoys reading, journaling as well as enjoying the outdoors hiking,
paragliding, and river trekking.
Vanessa graduated from The University of Canterbury in New Zealand with a Bachelor of Arts before moving to the University of Otago to complete a Dip Grad in Theatre Studies and a Bachelor of Education. She also attended the Dunedin College of Education where she gained a Diploma in Teaching (Primary). She enjoyed teaching in New Zealand before moving to the UK with her husband. After nearly 20 years teaching in various locations around the UK, the decision was made to embark on a new adventure. Vanessa moved to Malaysia with her husband and daughter to join KTJ.
Expressive Arts (Art, Design Technology, Drama & Music)
Paula studied for a BA (Hons) in Drama and Writing at Manchester
Metropolitan University. Paula then worked for several years as an
actor, writer, director and educational facilitator of drama. Paula has
taught and directed in schools and youth theatres across the UK. Her
joy comes from creating work with young people that explores the
complexities of the world around them. This led to Paula achieving her
teaching qualification at Newman University and then leading on arts-
based initiatives within secondary school settings. Paula has loved the
opportunity to learn and teach in Malaysia and aims to bring her passion
for the arts to this setting. In her spare time Paula enjoys travelling,
reading, swimming, going to the theatre and spending time with her
family, Liam and her two children Tristan and Phoebe.
Prior to joining KTJ, Elizabeth worked at West Hill Park Prep School in the UK as Head of Boarding and Teacher of Art, and she has a wealth of experience teaching Art to students aged 5 - 18. During her free time, Elizabeth enjoys camping, walking and spending time with family and friends in the great outdoors. She holds a BA Hons in Graphic Design from Falmouth College of Art and a PGCSE in Art and Design awarded by Bristol University.
Adrian Nebbett has been Head of Drama at KTJ since year 2009. He has over thirty years of experience in theatre at amateur, student, community, and professional levels, in the UK, USA, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. In his other life he is a well-known authority on Sherlock Holmes.
James studied for a BMus and MMus in Musicology at the University of
Huddersfield. At the conclusion of his MMus, he was awarded the Vice-
Chancellors PhD Award and completed a four-year project identifying
prototypical symphonic sonata-form codas in the works of Haydn,
Mozart and Beethoven. During his time at the University of Huddersfield,
James was involved in the delivery of Analysis in Music, Teaching Music
and Work in Professional Practice modules. James began his teaching
career at The Peterborough School, where he met his wife, Chloe
Johnson, before moving to Bedford School. Prior to joining KTJ, James
was involved in educational research exploring and analysing the
declining uptake of classroom Music in students aged 14-18. As the
Head of Curriculum Music across both the Primary and Secondary
Schools, James is aware of the importance of having a strong Music
programme from Early Years through to Sixth form. James is a reviewer
for the Journal of Music Research Online, and an examiner for the
International Baccalaureate Higher-Level Music course. In his free time,
James enjoys archery, both as a competitor and qualified Great Britian
coach, and playing modern board games.
Before joining KTJ, Adel taught in the UK, India, and the UAE. As the
Head of Co-curricular Music, he brings a unique perspective to
orchestral and ensemble playing; having delivered educational
workshops with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony
Orchestra, and Kidenza Orchestra. Adel is passionate about exploring
the psychological dimensions of performance with his students,
particularly how to project emotions through music.
Prior to his teaching career, Adel was an active freelance musician,
performing across Europe, Africa, and Asia, while also broadcasting for
BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4.
A dedicated community member, Adel integrates his love for music into
his volunteer activities, reaching out to amateur musicians and patients
in hospitals. He holds a BMus (Hons) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire
of Music and Dance and an iPGCE from the University of Derby. Currently,
he is pursuing a Master of Arts in Education.
Amy studied for a BSc Hons in Design and Technology and Education at Nottingham Trent University having achieved A-Levels and GCSE’s at Chew Valley School, near Bristol. Prior to University Amy went to do ‘Camp America’ and work as a Camp Counselor in Florida. She started her teaching career in a school near Bath, teaching Design Technology. After taking a year to independently travel Amy continued with her teaching career in Bristol and then became Head of Design Technology before taking a break in her career to have her 3 children, Dougie, Rosie and Pippa. In her spare time Amy loves to play netball, swim, walk, travel as much as she can and spend quality time with her family.
Shafizah, a graduate of MARA University of Technology Malaysia, enriched by her academic Major in Graphic Design. Dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence, Shafizah is completing her Harvard University Higher Education Teaching certificate. She holds a Certified Cambridge Art and Design Teacher. She has been recognised as an Apple Teacher from the Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) program, attesting to her proficiency in leveraging technology to enhance the learning experience. She commenced her career at Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar in 2010, later transitioning to diverse international schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor before returning to KTJ in 2023.
In her spare time she takes pleasure in painting, coaching and cooking. She also dedicates her expertise to assisting high school graduates in developing their portfolios for university admissions. From painting to ceramics and traditional batik art, she is always looking for her next creative adventure.
Angela teaches Food and Nutrition at KTJ. She is passionate about all things food, and shares her favourite recipes on her Food Brainwash YouTube channel!
Cheng studied an Art and Design undergraduate degree at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Australia. In 2010, she continued her studies in Education. She completed her Masters degree in teaching at Australian Catholic University as well as Graduate Diploma in Education at Griffith University (Brisbane). Upon graduation in 2013, she worked at Good Shepherd Christian School in Australia (Albany Creek) as an Art teacher. In 2015, she returned to Malaysia and taught IB Visual Arts syllabus at Fairview International School. In 2020, she worked as an IGCSE Art and Design Teacher at Sri KDU International school. During her spare time, Cheng loves to go cycling, swimming and to play badminton and table tennis. Cheng also likes to go travelling with her friends and family.
Kobus graduated at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and relocated to the UK where he taught Design & Technology as well as PE for 4 years. After spending some time back home in South Africa he headed over to China with his family, where he was a Houseparent and Director of Sport for 5 years at an International British Boarding School. Kobus thoroughly enjoys travelling with his lovely wife and 3 gorgeous boys.
Foo Chi Sian is a music teacher who has taught at KTJ since year 1996. She graduated from Victoria University of Wellington (N.Z.) and enjoys listening to all kinds of music.
Sazali Abd Majid joined KTJ in 2003. He graduated from the University of Salford, UK and enjoys travelling and movies.
Mohd Pauzi Mohd Nor has been an Art & Design teacher at KTJ since 1991, and has recently taken on a new role as Art Coordinator. He loves sports, painting and cooking. He also coaches soccer and tennis in his spare time.
Geography
Ben is the current Head of Humanities (History and Geography), having previously worked as a Head of Humanities in London. He graduated from Cardiff University, completed his teacher training at Exeter University and his M.Ed at St Mary's, Twickenham. His interests include reading, writing and rugby.
Conor studied BA Geography at the University of Portsmouth, before graduating in 2013 and joining the Metropolitan Police Service. Based in Central London as a police constable for seven years, he worked as an emergency response officer and as a domestic violence investigator on the safeguarding unit. In 2020, Conor changed career into teaching. Enrolling on the Teach First Leadership Development programme, he completed his ITT and PGDE, through Canterbury Christ Church University, at a secondary school in Mid Bedfordshire. In 2023, he completed his M. Ed. with a dissertation focused on the prior skills and experience career change teachers can bring to the classroom. In his spare time Conor enjoys watching and playing rugby as well as supporting the mighty Luton Town FC. He regularly visits his brother in London and family in the Republic of Ireland.
Edward joined KTJ in 2024 and was previously attached with the University of Bristol as a Deputy Head of Wellbeing. He brings with him experience in teaching, school governance, operations and student pastoral support.
During his free time he enjoys playing and coaching both rugby and cricket, cooking, gardening and has a passion for sailing.
Harry worked in the private sector in the UK before following his passion and training to become a teacher in 2019. He taught geography in Malvern and Herefordshire in the UK and ran the school’s COVID recovery interventions for students who were adversely affected by the pandemic. In addition to his passion for education, Harry is a keen sportsman and enjoys travelling with his three children and wife.
Julie has been teaching in the UK at 2 Sports Colleges as Head of Girls’ PE for 15 years. She has also been a lecturer in Sports Science at further Education college for 3 years, and the Head of Year and PE teacher at a Private Girls’ school in Royal Leamington Spa for 5 years. Julie is a qualified UK FA Football coach and Triathlon coach. She has competed in Full and Half Ironman triathlons at various venues around the world, as well as many running competitions from 10km through to Marathon distance. Julie loves all sports and the opportunities it provides people to develop themselves fully, as well as the way it brings communities together. She is looking forward to seeing the impact of sport on our students at KTJ, helping them to excel in all areas of life.

Matthew started his teaching at King Alfred School Somerset, then went on to be Head of Geography at Beaminster School in Dorset. In 2015 Matthew moved to Sidcot School and worked as an Assistant Head (Co-Curricular and Director Of Online Learning) as well as being a Deputy Housemaster. Matthew is Clair’s partner and they both have three children aged 5, 7, and 9. In his spare time Matthew likes to watch cricket, cycle and dive.
Puan Norliza is a pioneer teacher since December 1990 who teaches Geography. She has a Master Degree in Urban Planning from Portland State University, USA. She likes dancing and is the adviser of Malay Dance Group and IYA society in KTJ.
History
Ben is the current Head of Humanities (History and Geography), having previously worked as a Head of Humanities in London. He graduated from Cardiff University, completed his teacher training at Exeter University and his M.Ed at St Mary's, Twickenham. His interests include reading, writing and rugby.
Anastassi was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe. He studied at Exeter University and the University of Zimbabwe, where he was awarded Honours in Medieval Studies and Classics respectively. After achieving a Master’s Degree in Classics, he became a Lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe for the next fifteen years, doing a stint as Chairman of Department during that time.
Stas became a Teacher of Classics at Stonyhurst College in Lancashire’s Ribble Valley, the oldest Jesuit School in the world, and a very beautiful place. While there he soon became a Housemaster for the Lower Sixth Form. After seven years, he continued to teach Latin and Greek in both the A Level and IB syllabus, while also being a Sixth Form Tutor, and part of the team of the College Museum and Historic Libraries. In this latter role, he also translated a number of Latin manuscripts and texts for publication.
Stas plays tennis and the guitar, and has a reasonable singing voice. He loves cryptic crosswords, and is learning and reading Russian.
Andrew joined KTJ after being Head of History at an international school in North Wales. He completed his initial degree and PGCE at Swansea University and then studied for a Masters at Liverpool University. He has over twenty years teaching experience and has taught at a number of day and boarding schools in the UK. His main interests are reading, travelling and most sports, especially football, golf and badminton.

Prior to joining KTJ, Ms. Mei taught at ELC International School from 2020-2023, where she taught History and Geography. She currently teaches Form 1 to Form 4 History and Geography in KTJ Secondary. During her free time, she enjoys exercising, reading and has a passion for Russian history and culture.
Richard spent his childhood moving through various international school systems, having grown up in Syria, Scotland, Nigeria and India. Richard returned to the UK to study for his MA in History at the University of Aberdeen. After graduating, he worked in hotel management in Devon in the UK, before transitioning into teaching in his late 20s. Richard studied the rigorous PGCE course through the University of Buckingham and has specialised in teaching Secondary History. Prior to moving to work at KTJ he taught in Uzbekistan for a number of years. In his spare time, Richard enjoys reading, travelling and particularly exploring historical sites of interest around the world.
Islamic Studies
Haziq was a private home tutor and graphic designer for almost 10 years. He brings with him extensive experience in teaching, designing and IT. He is the Cover Supervisor and Islamic Studies Teacher. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Information Communication Technology, majoring in Database and minoring in Business Administration from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
Languages
Ms Thevi is the IGCSE Malay teacher and Head of the Malay Language Department. Prior to joining KTJ, she was attached with the Rafflesia International School and Fairview International School as the IGCSE language teacher and Head of Malay Language Department. Thevi started her career as a Montessori teacher and had a great time sharing her Montessori skills with the younger learners. Over the past 12 years, she's had the wonderful opportunity to become a Montessori, an International Baccalaureate(IB), IGCSE educator and Team Leader cum Language Program Designer in primary and secondary school settings. Thevi's interest in Language and Linguistics stimulated her to lead a Middle Year Program for Grade 7 till 11. She has developed highly effective teaching techniques and instructional methods, which has allowed her to educate all styles of learning by creating fun, engaging learning environments and encouraging growing independence learners. During Thevi's free time, she enjoys doing yoga, travelling, baking and social activities and has a passion for guiding youngsters toward their future. Thevi holds a Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Modern Language and Communication awarded by University Putra Malaysia (UPM), International Baccalaureate Tutor by Fairview International College and Montessori Facilitator awarded by Smart Reader Worldwide.
Bee San was born and raised in Malaysia and is originally from Kuala Lumpur. Bee San gained her undergraduate degree from Uni Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Chinese Language with Education), followed by completing her Masters at the same university in Chinese Literature. Prior to teaching in KTJ, she has five years teaching Chinese Language in another international school and Chinese independent school. She believes that education is life itself and perhaps one of the most important ingredients to a happy, successful and constructive life. Outside of school, Bee San loves to read literature of magical realism and certain studies of social science.
Abdul Aziz Seti holds a Bachelor of Mass Communication (Broadcasting) degree from Universiti Teknologi MARA. He is very interested in language and communication studies. His deep interest in both areas saw him qualify as a journalist on current affairs and entertainment for Malaysian TV. His eloquence also enabled him to work for the prominent national airline, Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB). Aziz’s career moved on to Able learner Centre, Kuala Lumpur followed by Nilai International School. He also held the position of House Parent in NIS. Aziz also taught Performing Arts in his previous schools and led choirs which involves acapella voice harmony, alto, tenor, soprano and bass singing. In addition to teaching, he actively encourages the learning of Malay culture through poetry, dance, costume and celebrations of major Malaysian festivals. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with all of his students. Besides teaching Malay Language in KTJ he is also a house tutor for Nadzaruddin.
After graduating at the University of Avignon, Dominique came to the UK to obtain an equivalent of her French degree in the University of Humberside and Lincolnshire. in 2007, she decided to change her career and did her teacher training in Chichester. She taught 7 years in a prep school in the UK and then moved to the UAE for 3 years with her husband and daughter Amélie. In her spare time, Dominique enjoys running, reading and meeting new people through travelling.
Esméralda Borges is a French teacher and the Houseparent of Alia House. She has been teaching in KTJ since year 2002. She graduated from the University of Grenoble in France where she studied the Didactics of French as a Foreign Language. When she has some free time she enjoys going to the cinema and reading.
Jacklyn Lim is a Music (classroom and piano) and Chinese teacher who has been teaching for more than 20 years in International Schools. She graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia and is a registered teacher in Australia and Malaysia. She enjoys working, especially challenging work, being creative and exploring. She loves teaching Mandarin and using ICT as a teaching tool and always tries to create fun activities for her students to learn.
Moorthi has more than 28 years of teaching experience of which 7 years were spent teaching in a public secondary school. He has taught Bahasa Melayu, Pendidikan Moral, Pendidikan Sivik dan Kewarganegaraan, all under KSSM syllabus. He also teaches Malay Language for Primary and Secondary(IGCSE), Business Studies (IGCSE) and Local History. He has great interest in sports, currently involved in KTJ’s ECA’s such as squash, badminton and football. He is also a first level squash coach (WSF). During his free time he plays squash, badminton and does mountain climbing. Additionally he was a tutor for Imran House between 1997 to 2017, Head of Moral department and Head of Year for lower forms in KTJ.
Nur Izzatul Hidayah holds a degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia(UKM) in Linguistics. She is passionated about teaching language, so she decided to further her studies in language field. She started her career in Regent International School for two years as a secondary and primary Malay teacher. She also did Malay tuition during her free time before she moved to Seremban. She likes jogging, cooking, watching television and reading article during her free time. She is happily married to her husband, Firdaus, and they live in Port Dickson.
Kar Man (Carmen) graduated from the Sultan Idris Education University with a bachelor's degree in Chinese Language with Education. During her college time, she had participated in a cultural exchange programme in Guangzhou and was also selected to join a student exchange programme in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. Previously, she was working as a Mandarin writer and curriculum developer for 2 and a half years at Real Education. She loves reading, baking and cooking but also likes sports like swimming and playing badminton. She also enjoys adventures and explorations, especially exploring the mystery of the ocean, which is what motivates her to get a diving certificate. As a teacher, she likes to make friends with her students and understand their needs to create lessons that suit them the most. She ensures her students find her lessons relatable so that they can make use of the knowledge they learn from her class in their everyday life.
Mdm Yeoh Mun Foong teaches Physical Education and Chinese Language, and has been at KTJ since year 1998. She graduated from Malaysia Teachers Training College, University of Putra (Malaysia) and University of Zhe Jiang (China). She loves cats!

Mathematics
Wei Yee is the Head of the Maths Department who joined KTJ in 2010. She graduated from the University of Malaya and has years of experience in teaching both the IGCSE and A-Levels Maths. She is a huge badminton fan, too.
Angie is a Mathematics teacher and Irinah Houseparent. She has been with KTJ since 2001. Angie is an avid table-tennis player; she was previously an ECA Coordinator and NQH House Tutor.
I am one of the few pioneer teachers who is still attached to KTJ. I started as the Head of Physics in November 1990 and taught science for 27 years. I have a strong passion for maths and science so I decided to teach maths, which I have been doing so since 2017.
Kit is a mathematics teacher in the Secondary School. Prior to KTJ, Kit was attached to Chong Hwa Independent High School in Kuala Lumpur where he also taught mathematics. He holds a masters in mathematics awarded by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Sungai Long, Bachelor of Computer Science awarded by Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Diploma of Education awarded by Beijing Normal University. During his free time, Kit enjoys listening music, drawing, calligraphy and workout with friends.
Fadhilah studied for Degree and Master in Mathematics at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai (UTM). She has experience teaching the Cambridge, Singapore and National syllabus. She has been teaching Mathematics for 5 years in 2 different schools and 9 years personal tutoring (Maths) for more than 20 students before joining KTJ in April 2021. She loves to bake and crafting.
Mr. Fong is a Maths teacher who joined KTJ in 2011. He graduated from the National University of Singapore and enjoys tennis.
Helen graduated with a BSc in Mathematics from the University of
Exeter. She joined the teaching profession after 15 years of working in
the financial industry and running her own business in the UK. Helen is
passionate about inclusion in the classroom, and before moving to
Malaysia she specialised in teaching GCSE and A-Level maths to young
people with visual impairments at The Royal National College for The
Blind. Helen enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, reading,
gardening and travelling.
Hussin Bin Sahid is a Maths and Islamic Studies teacher who has taught at KTJ since 1997. He graduated from Ohio University, Athens.
Jayasari is a Maths teacher at KTJ and has been here since year 2011. She graduated from University Tun Abdul Razak and enjoys playing badminton.
Lester Dickman, who joined KTJ in 1996, has been a Mathematics teacher for more than 30 years. He is passionate about spending time in the classroom with his students. Lester completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Malaya. He enjoys spending all his spare time with his family.
Luke studied for a BSc in Mathematics and Physics with Astrophysics at
Kings College London before undertaking his PGCE. After numerous
years of teaching and tutoring in the UK, Luke moved to China to
continue his career where he lived and worked in Beijing and Shanghai.
Now in Malaysia working and living, he is enjoying his free-time cycling,
running, or hiking whenever possible. Or playing darts, baking or
reading.
Murali is a Maths teacher who joined KTJ in year 2001 with 24 years of teaching experience altogether. He has graduated from UKM, Malaysia with Bsc (Hons) in Mathematics. He is a biker and loves travelling.

Soba Kumari is a Mathematics teacher who has taught at KTJ since year 2004. She has graduated from the University of Malaya and enjoys reading and baking.
Sudhan studied Actuarial Science at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). He discovered a passion for teaching through tutoring in a homeschooling academy in Malaysia and decided to pursue the Cambridge International Diploma in Teaching and Learning. Sudhan believes any student can by good at Mathematics if they are given the space to learn at their own pace. In his spare time, Sudhan enjoys reading and watching films.
Suren completed his teaching qualification in Unitar, and has since been teaching mathematics for 11 years in International Schools. In his spare time, Suren enjoys working out in the gym and riding bikes.
Thau Wei Chyi joined KTJ in 2024 and was previously attached with Chung Hua High School specialising in teaching additional Mathematics. In her free time she enjoys gardening and has a passion for aerial yoga.
Venga is a Maths teacher who has taught at KTJ since year 1998. He graduated from the University of Science, Malaysia and enjoys outdoor activities.
Warren studied at Edgewood College in Durban, SA, before moving to the UK in 1998, initially to play cricket and travel. After deciding to stay in the UK, he taught at both state and private schools in London and the Home Counties. His final position was Head of Boarding at Lambrook School, a prestigious preparatory school in Berkshire.
He is an enthusiastic sportsman who is particularly keen on cricket, golf, rugby and fishing. He also enjoys travelling with his wife, Caroline, and their three children.
Outdoor and Experiential Education
Avindran Tharmasegaran, commonly referred to as Avin, is the Head of Outdoor and Experiential Education for both KTJ Primary and Secondary. Avin's previous engagement was with Fairview International School, where he held the position of Outdoor Education Coordinator starting from January 2019, following his tenure as an Outdoor Trainer commencing in January 2016. His responsibilities primarily encompassed organising camps and facilitating international expeditions aimed at students' holistic development.
Avin's expertise lies in the realm of experiential and outdoor education, which he aims to seamlessly integrate into the school curriculum. Beyond his professional pursuits, Avin is an avid sports enthusiast, engaging in activities like badminton, basketball and table tennis. His penchant for adventure is evident in his love for hiking as well.
His academic background includes a Bachelor in Education (TESL) earned from University Selangor, accompanied by a Master in Education (IB) and PGDE in Education (IB) acquired from University College Fairview. Notably, he also holds certification as a Duke of Edinburgh International Award Leader, reflecting his commitment to fostering well-rounded development in students.
Physical Education and Sports
JJ brings to KTJ over 20 years of teaching, coaching, leadership and pastoral experience from leading UK Independent schools, including St Peter's School, York,. He has built up nationally respected sports programs which have competed in numerous national finals as well as producing national league and England age group players.
He leads the strategic development of sport at KTJ, and firmly believes that sport develops important values that lead to students developing a strong moral compass and allows the students to live the school values. JJ believes that sport should be accessible to all. This should be delivered through an informed child centered approach, offering meaningful physical recreation activities, competitive school fixtures for all who choose the competitive sport options, as well as a program that fully supports and develops those aspiring to be national level athletes. In essence, all at KTJ should have a quality and positive sporting experience, which allows them to pursue their sport with passion and confidence once they leave KTJ.
During his free time, he enjoys playing and coaching a variety of sports, such as hockey, cricket and football as well as being an avid reader. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Cheryl, and daughters Georgia and Matilda, who are both at KTJ Primary.
Peter Moss is from York, England, and takes great pride in being responsible for the progression, growth and management of Physical Education and Sport within a period, spanning over 18yrs. He joined KTJ in August 2017 where prior leadership roles have been Director of Sport, Head of Physical Education, Director of Football, and Head Coach status in the USA, UK, Brazil and Kenya. A history of coaching and competing at professional, international level, development, and age group levels exemplifies his ‘rich’ expertise. With proven qualities such as adaptability, emotional intelligence, innovation, and communication, his life-long passion has always been student progress, and development.
Areena earned her bachelor’s degree in Sports Science from the University Teknologi MARA. While field hockey is her primary sport, she also likes to play basketball. Areena’s commitment to fostering a positive environment was demonstrated through her 2-year tenure as Head of Wellbeing at her previous school in KL, where her focus was on making students feel safe and happy. In her free time, Areena relishes participating in various physical and outdoor activities.
Ben studied for his Bsc (Hons) and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary Physical Education) at DeMontfort University. He started his career at St Columba’s College, then an independent HMC day school for boys, as a Physical Education teacher before taking on the responsibility of Head of House. Relocation to the South coast provided opportunities to work in both a Preparatory IAPS co-educational boarding school and within the healthcare sector during periods away from education. Away from work Ben enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, watching sport and travel. He is married to Liz and has two children, Harriet and Arthur.
Before joining KTJ, Eddin was attached with HELP International School, Shah Alam as Year 7 Homeroom Tutor and KS3 - KS5 PE teacher. With 6 years of teaching experience in 2 different schools, Eddin has taught Physical Education in IGCSE and International Baccalaureate syllabus. Outside of school, Eddin is a big sports fan and sports player, and his two favorite sports at the moment are badminton and golf which he spends most of the time in. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science (Edu) and Cambridge Certified Teacher.
Ayu Amrizal studied a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, a Bachelor (Hons) Health Sciences Exercise and Sport Science as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (International Baccalaureate). She started her professional career in 2015 as development officer for Malaysia Rugby Union before embarking on her journey as educator in 2017. She has been teaching Physical Health and Education (PHE) for more than 5 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, drawing, playing various sports and has a passion for outdoor activities.
Jesse has been working at KTJ since 2008. He has a degree in marketing and an MBA. Jesse also holds the Bronze Medallion and Lifeguard Award of Merit. In his spare time Jesse enjoys swimming, running and spending time with his young daughters.
Shamirul was born and raised in Selangor, Malaysia. He holds a Bachelor of Sports Science (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) before studying and completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching (PGDT) at Open University Malaysia (OUM). Before teaching in KTJ, he had 5 years of experience teaching in another international school. He loves helping young people learn about the benefits of physical education including building a strong mind and body, having fun, and working together. He is a keen sportsperson and actively enjoys football, cycling and running. Apart from sports, Shamirul loves outdoor activities, hiking and traveling all around the world.
Science
Moustapha Bechir is a passionate science teacher who has been working in teaching in the UK for 7 years. During this time, he helped learners achieve great results and equipped students to attend prestigious universities. He holds a PGCE in Biology education qualification awarded by University College London (UCL), an M.A. in Education awarded by the University of Sunderland, and a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences awarded by the University of Westminster. During his free time, he enjoys learning and practicing martial arts, spending time with his family and he has a passion for understanding nutrition.
Sabrina graduated from the University of Malaya with a B.sc. Hons in Microbiology and a Diploma in Education. She was the head of the Biology department at KTJ in the past and has been at the schools since 1994. She enjoys her work with the boarding houses and in the past has been the Houseparent at Irinah and Naquiah House.
Stephanie graduated with a Master of Pharmacy degree from the University of Bath in 2008 and worked as a Pharmacist in the UK for 6 years before moving to Malaysia with her husband and pursuing a career in teaching. She completed her PGCEi with the University of Nottingham in 2018 and is currently teaching chemistry at KTJ. In her free time she enjoys keeping active and exploring new places.
Ang is from Malacca in Malaysia. He completed his Bachelor of Science with education at University Malaya in Malaysia. For the last 20 years, he has taught Physics at Advanced level and International General Certificate of Secondary Education. He was also a House Tutor in Nadzimuddin House. Prior to coming to KTJ, Ang taught in Airforce Technical School and Airforce Flying School in Malaysia. Students' success is what drives him to continue in education. He is a firm believer that interactive and inquiring classrooms develop lifelong learners.He has been very involved with computers and ICT for many years, preferring to apply skills rather than simply play computer games. Ang has two sons and two daughters, all living in Malaysia. He loves to travel, and get to know interesting people around the world!
Yoke Kum holds a PhD in Polymer Chemistry and BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry from University Malaya. Prior to joining KTJ, she was attached to HELP Academy as the Senior Lecturer of Chemistry in the Department of A-levels for 10 years. During her free time, she enjoys baking, yoga and spending time with her two daughters.
Angie Wong studied for a Bachelor in Education with Honours (Biology and Chemistry) and Master degree in Science in Biochemistry at National University of Malaysia. She started her career as a Chemistry, Science and Mathematics teacher at Matrix Private School in Negeri Sembilan. In 2018, she took up the post of Head of Panel in Science Department in the school. She was also the advisor of St. John Ambulance uniform unit. During her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, planting and travelling with her family.
Chloe grew up in the UK and read Zoology at Durham University, before
being awarded a scholarship to study at the University of Evansville,
USA for a year, where she also worked as an Educational Docent at the
Mesker Park Zoo. Following her PGCE at The University of Nottingham,
she took on a biology teaching role at The Peterborough School,
progressing to become Teacher in Charge of Biology and later Head of
PSHE and Careers. In her spare time Chloe has won international
awards for sewing traditional teddy bears, and enjoys modern board
games and reading, especially non-fiction. She is married to James
Crackle and they have a wonderful daughter, Mia, who is settling into life
at KTJ Primary.
Hasmuni graduated from the University Of Malaya. He has taught Science at KTJ since August 1991 and has a keen interest in most sports.
Lance is from Edmonton, Canada, but has been teaching internationally since 2001 in parts of the Middle East and in Beijing. He obtained a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta and a Masters of Science in Science Education from Montana State University. Lance began his career as a Mathematics teacher but has been focused on Physics since 2006 and joined KTJ in 2018. An obsessive golfer, he also enjoys tennis, squash,cycling, and when he can find snow and mountains - downhill skiing. His wife, Echo, was formerly an avid rock climber and volunteers at the KTJ climbing wall.
Patrick studied for BSc at Kenyatta university, Nairobi. He later took a
Post graduate diploma in Education at Egerton University in 2004. He
has taught in international school in different countries in Africa and
central Asia. He joined KTJ in 2024. In his free time, Patrick enjoys
listening to music and playing table tennis.
Rasyidah studied for a BA in Biohealth at the University of Malaya and graduated in 2013. She started her career as a secondary school teacher in 2016 in Stella Maris International School Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. She was the class teacher as well as the prefectorial teacher of the school for 4 years. In 2020, she moved to another international school in Ampang, Mutiara International Grammar school. She has attended various CAIE trainings. During her spare time, she enjoys singing and spending time with her beautiful daughter, Zaira. She is passionate about traditional music and is actively involved in performing in cultural events around Malaysia.
Thomas was born in Penang and lived their for 8 years. He moved to the UK with his family, where he went onto study at Sheffield Hallam University to become a teacher of science. Despite living in the UK for many years, Malaysia has always felt like home for Thomas and he is very excited to be back! Thomas loves anything to do with space, enjoys learning about philosophy and eating char kuey teow.
Anah, originally from Alor Setar, Kedah, is an experienced educator with
a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from Universiti Putra
Malaysia. With 5 years of teaching experience across three different
international schools, she now teaches Science for Year 8 and Physics
for Years 10 and 11 at Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar (KTJ). Her diverse
background has provided her with valuable insights into various
teaching methods and student needs. In her free time, Anah enjoys
socialising with her family and traveling with her husband, Kamal.
Vaanee holds a PhD in Genetics awarded by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Her career began at Top Glove Sdn Bhd as a chemist before embarking on her studies at UKM. Before joining KTJ, Vaanee taught Chemistry and Science at Peninsula International School. She taught students from Year 7 to Year 11 based on the Victorian Curriculum. She utilised various pedagogical methods to enhance learning effectiveness and implemented differentiated teaching based on language and learning ability. Her dedication to education drives her as she passionately helps the younger generations fulfil their aspirations. In her free time, Vaanee enjoys hiking, painting, and acquiring new skills.
After completing her BSc in Biotechnology, Vinoshini was offered a scholarship to continue her studies at the University Putra Malaysia where she pursued an MSc in Environmental Health (Microbiology). Vinoshini embarked on her career as a Science and Biology teacher in Zenith International School where she was the KS3 coordinator before she moved to Matrix Global School. There, she took up the role as a pastoral lead and continued teaching Science and Biology. In 2019, Vinoshini moved to Setia Alam where she continued teaching and later took up the role as Head of Science Department. She strongly believes in student centred learning and incorporates new strategies in her teaching. During her free time, Vinoshini enjoys swimming, reading and spending time with her family. She is happily married and has one son.
Yuwaneswari is a Chemistry Teacher at KTJ and graduated from the University of Malaya in 2008. Her years working here at KTJ has given her lots of joy especially with the students.
EAL
As Director of the Sixth Form, Emma is responsible for academic and pastoral care of our senior students and also oversees careers development and our extensive Academic Enrichment Programme. Having been an EAL teacher to students aged from 5 to 75 at the British Council, Kuala Lumpur for 7 years, Emma joined KTJ as Head of Operations to help start the Primary school. She then moved back to her first love of teaching and now teaches IGCSE English as a Second Language and IELTS candidates.
As President of the Oxford and Cambridge Society Malaysia, she is also extremely dedicated to her mission of exposing KTJ'ers and other bright students in Malaysia to intellectual invigoration through annual outreach events such as The Oxbridge & KTJ Debating Forum, The Oxbridge & KTJ Engineering Workshop, The Oxbridge & KTJ Moot, and numerous webinars and interviews with leading thinkers, policy makers, activists and academics from around the world.
Yoon graduated from the University of Nottingham with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Prior to joining KTJ, Yoon volunteered her services as a classroom assistant and translator at KTJ. Yoon also taught English at English language institutes in South Korea. In her free time, Yoon enjoys walking, hiking, watching movies and travelling.
Sheen Yee graduated with a Bachelor in Education at the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) with First Class Honours. Prior to joining KTJ, Sheen Yee was also a trainee teacher at KTJ for 6 months as part of her final year programme before joining the school officially. During her free time, she enjoys writing, learning Korean, and reading romance novels.
Hana is one of the pioneer graduates for Bachelor’s of Arts in Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM). She then furthered to study her post graduate in Applied Linguistics in Newcastle University, United Kingdom. Prior to joining KTJ, she taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in several international schools and has taught adults for International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Hana works hard to ensure that her students reach their maximum potential while having fun along the way. In her spare time, Hana is passionate about traveling, she recently picked up wall climbing and she enjoys spending quality time with her family. She is married to Shah and has a charming son, Haider.
Leticia has been teaching the English language since 2010 spanning from her native United States to South Korea, Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia. She has taught a range of levels from adults to very young learners. Leticia has led IGCSE English as a First Language, IGCSE English as a Second Language, IELTS, as well as tailor-made English Language classes for all of her students. She is a firm believer that the best learning can only take place when the teacher puts the learner at the centre of each lesson. This includes taking their personality, likes, dislikes, and working/learning styles into account. In Leticia’s classrooms, learners are not spoon-fed information. Rather, they are encouraged to ask questions, use critical thinking, and share their opinions and ideas. Leticia’s learning environment is also one of complete safety and security. Learners are encouraged to make mistakes as she believes this is how the English Language is truly internalised. It is also not uncommon for Leticia to remind her students that they aren’t in her lessons to merely learn about how to take an exam, they are also being prepped for using English for life.
In her free time, Leticia enjoys getting stuck into her fibre arts projects (embroidery, knitting, and crochet). She also strives to lead an active lifestyle with her two children and husband while her favourite weekend activity is to spend a morning at the spa as well as exploring the seemingly endless amount of delicious food that Malaysia has to offer.
Hui Mean graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) with a Bachelor of Arts in English for Professionals. She has extensive experience in working in the diverse sphere of education. Her career in education started when she became a substitute class teacher in a Chinese primary school and later took on the role as a tutor and learning coach in a daycare centre. After her BA, she continued to sharpen her teaching expertise by taking on the role as a teacher assistant in British Council and for the next 5 years, she has also taught IGCSE First Language English and IGCSE English as a Second Language. Desired to expand her teaching expertise and knowledge, she obtained a Master in Teaching English as a Second Language from Universiti Malaya (UM) in 2020. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities, leisure cooking and occasional craft projects.
Learning Support and Academic Mentors
Prior to joining KTJ, Jacqui was attached to Bromsgrove School, UK. Before specialising in working with students with learning differences, Jacqui worked in mainstream and special schools as a Head of English for over 15 years. She brings with her experience in the co-ordination of whole school provision for students with SEND, screening and targeted assessments to ascertain strategies for specific intervention. Jacqui is also a Level 7 qualified Specialist Assessor so is able to carry out standardised psychometric tests to be able to recommend and apply for personalised Exam Access Arrangements for GCSE, IGCSE, BTEC, A Level and IB public exams.
During her free time, she enjoys DIY, crafting, live music events, travel and spending time with her family.
Jo has worked in Learning Support for sixteen years at a secondary school in England and prior to this was a mainstream English teacher. KTJ is her first international school experience and she is looking forward to all that the school and Malaysia has to offer. Jo enjoys all aspects of food, drink and travel as well as swimming, reading and cycling. Coming from a coastal town she loves anything on or in the water!
Christina has been teaching for the past 10 years. She was attached to an International School as an Early Years Teacher for 7 years and as a Learning Support Teacher for 3 years. During her free time, she enjoys scrapbooking and journaling and has a penchant for making cards. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education and Master's Degree in Educational Psychology awarded by Universiti Putra Malaysia. She is married to Murali and they have 3 children.
Esther studied for an Advanced Diploma in Special Needs Education at College Allied Educator in Singapore and has a Professional Advanced Certification in Special Education from the Open University, Malaysia. She also has a Diploma in Physiotherapy from Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare College, Malaysia. Esther started her career in 2017 at a special needs centre in Seremban as a physiotherapist. After a year, she joined the Bridging Autism Network as a personal learning assistant and provided one to one home-based learning. In 2019, she was a personal learning assistant for a student at Zenith International School in Seremban. From 2020 to 2023, Esther joined Summit 2 Private School as a special education teacher and developed individualised education plans for students in preschool and primary. Esther is a proud owner of three cats and one dog. In her free time she likes to travel and watch K-dramas.
Julie has been teaching in the UK at 2 Sports Colleges as Head of Girls’ PE for 15 years. She has also been a lecturer in Sports Science at further Education college for 3 years, and the Head of Year and PE teacher at a Private Girls’ school in Royal Leamington Spa for 5 years. Julie is a qualified UK FA Football coach and Triathlon coach. She has competed in Full and Half Ironman triathlons at various venues around the world, as well as many running competitions from 10km through to Marathon distance. Julie loves all sports and the opportunities it provides people to develop themselves fully, as well as the way it brings communities together. She is looking forward to seeing the impact of sport on our students at KTJ, helping them to excel in all areas of life.
Kesh completed her Primary and Secondary school education in Malaysia, and also obtained her diploma and degree locally. She started her career as an Early Years teacher. Later on, she worked with Primary and Secondary level students in a few private schools across KL and Selangor, Malaysia, where she taught mainly Science, Maths, Humanities and Malay Language. Kesh is also a private tutor, providing one-on-one guidance to her students. Kesh would like to expand her professional development by learning more about helping students with special educational needs. During her free time, she loves spending time with her loved ones or just spending some time in nature. Kesh also loves to dance and bake.
Lavinya Shan Kaur is a Learning Support Assistant in the Secondary School, reporting to Joanne Saunders. Prior to joining KTJ, Lavinya was attached to a government school as a trainee and cover teacher and has teaching experience in a few international schools. She has 8 years of teaching experience working as an English teacher, assistant teacher and homeroom teacher from preschool up to secondary. During her free time, she enjoys cooking and reading articles and has passion for teaching. She has completed basic first aid, CPR and AED training and obtained a certificate from the CERT Academy and was recognized as an Apple Teacher in her previous international school. She holds a Diploma in Education (TESL) awarded by Management and Science University, Cambridge International Certificate in Teaching and Learning (CICTL) and Cambridge International Award in Teaching and Learning ( CIATL) awarded by University of Cambridge.

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE)
Luciana holds a Post grad diploma in Positive Education from the School of Positive Psychology and a Master’s in science by Hospital AC Camargo. Prior to joining KTJ, Luciana was attached with Overseas Family School in Singapore as a Science/Biology teacher, she was also coordinator of the teacher’s wellbeing committee. Her extensive experience in teaching Science/Biology and preparing her students for IGCSE and IB examinations, led her to realise that her higher achieving students were also the ones that followed a more balanced approach. As coordinator, she worked with teachers and students to create strategies to improve wellbeing. Luciana will be leading the PSHEE program in KTJ. During her free time, she enjoys travelling and has a passion for dancing and singing. She also loves meeting her friends for a nice chat over a cup of tea/coffee.

Counsellors
Rachael, holding an M.ED majoring in guidance and counselling, a Post-graduate Certificate in Satir Systemic Brief Therapy, and licensed as a Counsellor by the Malaysian Board of Counsellors (K.B.;P.A.), has been passionately committed to promoting the mental health and holistic well-being of children and teenagers since 2014. She has experience in Malaysian primary and secondary schools, and has volunteered as a volunteer teacher in a non-profit organisation committed to end education inequality in Malaysia. Rachael's unwavering commitment to the well-being of children and teenagers, coupled with her passion for parenting and the holistic development of youth, drives her mission to nurture and empower young minds to attain the quality of life and well-being they aspire to achieve. She also possesses a unique skill set in counselling, appreciating and integrating systemic, cognitive-behavioral, and person-centered approaches, allowing her to provide comprehensive counselling support to the students at KTJ.
Siow Li Fong, also goes by Fiona, has worked in corporate in areas of
Change Management, Project Management and Instructional Design
before moving on to become a registered and licensed counsellor with
Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (KB, PA). Fiona has a passion for
diversity in her work with a multitude of organisations, populations and
mental health issues and accessibility. She has undergone training to be
a certified Psychological First Aid trainer, counsellor supervisor, trauma
therapist and holds a diploma in Neuro-Dramatic-Play. In her spare time,
Fiona plays a lot with family and friends.
Safeguarding
Pei Shyen holds a Bachelor of Industrial Psychology (Hons) awarded by Universiti Selangor and Master of Professional Counselling from Universiti Malaya. Prior to joining KTJ, she was attached to Fairview International School as the registered school counsellor. She is passionate about improving the learning/working environment and people’s experiences. During her free time, she enjoys researching new ideas in multiple aspects and loves spending quality time with her family.
