At KTJ we believe in developing the whole learner through academic rigour, creativity and global citizenship. Our Expressive Arts department is a busy, thriving place where we encourage pupils with a passion for the arts to:
Be brave, create and innovate
Our Expressive Arts faculty brings together all areas in the arts including drama, dance, music, art and design technology. We are passionate about the amazing opportunities these subject areas can bring to our young learners and want to encourage talent and enthusiasm in creativity.
As part of this ambition, we are offering the following Expressive Arts Scholarships for those with a desire to develop as creative artists in our beautiful setting.
Please note that we are not looking for the highest ability, we are interested in pupils who have a genuine joy for Expressive Arts and are keen to develop in their chosen specialism.
Our Expressive Arts Scholarships
Academic Dance Scholarships are for pupils who have a love for dance and choreography. These scholars will be expected to choose to study dance as an academic subject at IGCSE level, alongside taking part in dance productions and workshops. A dance scholar will also share their skills with their peers and be an advocate for the subject.
Expectations of successful candidates
Recipients of the Academic Dance Scholarship are expected to:
- study IGCSE Dance;
- dedicate sufficient time to practise and develop their performance skills and technical ability;
- participate in large scale performance events within school, clubs, smaller showings and competitions relevant to the subject area;
- take the lead in dance classes and related CCAs, and create opportunities to develop their own interests in this area.
The scholarship will be reviewed each year by the Scholarship Committee, based on input from the Director of Expressive Arts and Subject Lead for Dance.
Academic Drama Scholarships are for exceptional pupils with a passion for Drama. These scholars are expected to choose to study Drama as an academic subject (IGCSE or A Level) and pursue co-curricular opportunities in acting and performance. A Drama scholar does not need to have a great deal of experience, but a passion for Drama and a willingness to lead by example in our thriving Expressive Arts department is imperative.

Expectations of a Scholar at KTJ
Scholarships are highly competitive at KTJ and the expectations of our successful candidates are high. We want you to be the face of the arts at KTJ and demonstrate your skills to our young people.
If you are successful in achieving a scholarship you will be expected to take an active part in both the curricular and co-curricular opportunities available. You will be an advocate for your art and demonstrate leadership in your chosen skill area. This may include creating workshops, performance events or sharings for pupils across both the Primary and Secondary school.
Making an Application
Successful candidates will receive between 10% and 75% discount on tuition fees, and Expressive Arts Scholarships can be combined with other KTJ Scholarships. For example, an IGCSE student could combine the Academic Dance Scholarship with the Academic Drama Scholarship, or an A Level student could combine the Academic Music Scholarship with the Sixth Form Academic Scholarship. The only combination that is not accepted is the Academic Music Scholarship with the Music Scholarship for Endangered Instruments.
