‘Light at the end of the tunnel’ for KTJ students
Boarding students at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ) were welcomed back to School last week, as Negeri Sembilan entered phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan.
Over 96% of the adult population of Negeri Sembilan has been vaccinated, according to the official Malaysian government website for COVID-19 data and insights, COVIDNOW (covidnow.moh.gov.my). The state has the second highest rate of the total population vaccinated and the lowest ICU rates in Malaysia.
Form 1 to 6 boarding students returned to KTJ in phases from Wednesday 29 September onwards. All returning students were expected to undergo a COVID-19 saliva test on their day of arrival, and will have another test 6 and 14 days after their return.
All KTJ students aged 12 to 17 are also eligible for the Pfizer vaccination. The first dose was provided in Seremban on Sunday 3 October, and the second dose has been arranged for Friday 29 October. Transport to the vaccination centre was organised for boarding students.
Students in KTJ Early Years (ages 3 to 5) have already returned to face-to-face teaching on Monday 13 September, and Form 5 and 6 students were welcomed back to the classroom on Monday 4 October. Students in Key Stage one (ages 5 to 7) and Forms 3 and 4 in the Secondary are expected to return to the classroom on Wednesday 20 October. Students in Key Stage two (ages 7 to 11) and Forms 1 and 2 will then return on Monday 8 November.
Principal of KTJ, Dr Glenn Moodie, said:
“We are so excited to welcome our Form one to six boarding students back to KTJ, as well as day students in the Primary and Secondary back to face-to-face teaching over the next few weeks. I am confident that this is the light at the end of the tunnel for KTJ students.”
All onsite staff at KTJ, including teachers, learning assistants, administration, catering, external contractors, maintenance and security have been vaccinated. KTJ students and staff also have access to an onsite 24/7 Health Centre, with four nurses and a registered doctor.
Head of KTJ Primary, Kris Davis, explained:
“We educate our students on the importance of following SOPs, such as wearing face masks and physical distancing, and personal hygiene is practiced daily. Even with these robust and effective procedures in place, we know that the KTJ community must remain vigilant to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We are all very optimistic for the coming school year and look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead!”
