Vegetarian Tuesdays
Last month, the Food Committee and Catering Team hosted a tasting for the new vegetarian menu to be served for our weekly vegetarian lunch on Tuesdays.
Students from all forms were invited to participate in the food tasting along with members of the Senior Leadership Team and our Principal, Dr. Glenn Moodie. The aim of this was to obtain their opinions on the potential meal options available and decide on the most popular ones to be served in the dining hall. Options included pasta (mac n’ cheese!), pizza, vegetable wraps, pasembur and many more.
Some students might be wondering, why do we bother doing Vegetarian Tuesdays? By reducing our meat intake we reduce the School's contribution to meat production which has a negative impact on the environment. Excessive consumption of meat could lead to many environmental issues such as feed sourcing, manure processing and climate change.
We believe that with the new additions to the vegetarian menu, more students will be encouraged to attend the lunches on Tuesday and try the meat-free meals. We should all contribute to KTJ’s environmental sustainability goals by supporting the dining hall’s methods to diversify the vegetarian menu served.
“The school’s introduction of the new vegetarian food really changed my perspective on how meat isn’t a necessity in a meal to make it delicious.”
Riekesh Singh, L6 Naquiyuddin (Food Com member)
“The Mac n’ Cheese was delightful and I would love to see more of it.”
Alia Lew, L6 Jawahir
