Oxbridge Moot
On Saturday 23rd November, KTJ hosted the only school Moot in Malaysia, attended by students from the International School at Park City and the British School of Kuala Lumpur.
The court case used for the event was taken from the top Asian Mooting Competition for university students, Law Asia. Each team of students was assigned a professional lawyer as a mentor, who helped them to prepare their arguments, evidence and rebuttals over a seven week period. During the event, each court hearing had a panel of three arbitrators, with one leading senior barrister, who asked the student lawyer challenging questions throughout their presentation.
In the first hearing, KTJ ND (claimants) went against KTJ MG (respondents), with the respondents winning. The second hearing saw ISP (claimants) go head-to-head with BSKL (respondents), with the respondents winning again. This placed KTJ MG in the final against BSKL. The KTJ MG team changed sides and argued for the claimants, with just one hour to prepare their case. KTJ ND also changed to the claimants side in their hearing against ISP for the 3rd and 4th rankings. KTJ was triumphant in both hearings, and team KTJ MG were awarded the Dato' Bill Davidson trophy!
Thank you to all of the students, teachers and Dato' Bill Davidson who attended, and well done to Ms Emma for organising another great event.
