New KTJ Principal
We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Glenn Moodie has been appointed as the new KTJ Principal. After attending an all boys’ secondary school in New Zealand, Glenn studied for a BA and an MA in Classics at the University of Otago. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1998 to undertake a PhD in Ancient Greek tragedy at the University of Bristol. Along the way he became a teacher quite by accident and has been one ever since.
He started his career at Clifton College in Bristol, before becoming Head of Classics at Uppingham School. Both Clifton and Uppingham are co-educational boarding schools and members of the prestigious Rugby Group of independent schools. From Uppingham, Glenn moved to Wycombe Abbey School as the Deputy Head Academic. There he oversaw the teaching and learning at a school which was regularly top of the UK league tables at both GCSE and A Level. In 2014 Glenn took up the post of Headmaster of Truro High School in Cornwall – the far south-western corner of the UK. There he has overseen a period of change, which has included a significant rise in the pupil roll and the raising of the school’s academic profile.
In his spare time Glenn enjoys following rugby and cricket, cycling, body boarding, reading, gardening and spending time with his family. He is married to Vanessa and they have a 10-year-old daughter, Livia, who will be joining Year 6 at KTJ in August.
Glenn says, ‘I am proud and humbled to be appointed as the next Principal of Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar. The school is a special place and I look forward to building on the many successes of Simon Watson. My family and I are very excited about the opportunity to move to Malaysia and we cannot wait to join the school community.’
