PASTORAL CARE

KTJ provides a homely and balanced community within which students can flourish. Houseparents seek to promote the positive growth and development of the students in their care by encouraging good standards of activity and conduct. At the heart of this role is the challenge of ensuring that each student is enabled to foster his or her self esteem, that each student has his or her accepted niche in the House, and that each and every student ‘belongs’ in the broadest sense.

In addition to houseparents, professional counselling is offered as an integral part of the school’s pastoral care system. The service aims to offer students support with their academic, social and personal lives. The school prefects also run a peer counselling service for those students who wish to talk or seek guidance from their peers rather than a member of staff. It is further enhanced by a tutor system that gives an additional avenue for students to share concerns.
